POSTGRADUATE COURSES
The centre offers professional postgraduate courses in Cleaner Production and Sustainability Management. The courses are multidisciplinary in nature and designed to learn from industry best practice and emerging science and technology to enable proactive businesses to benefit from the sustainable development challenges they face.
Cleaner Production Program
Cleaner Production is a rapidly growing, internationally recognised discipline. Its goal is to avoid generating waste in production systems while minimising the use of energy, material, water and other natural resources. Its outcomes are reductions in production costs, energy consumption, pollution and health risks.
The courses will provide decision makers in business, government and other organisations with insights, skills and tools to enable them to contribute to the achievement of such outcomes. The courses are multidisciplinary and incorporate both theoretical and practical approaches to Cleaner Production and Eco-Efficiency.The Cleaner Production program was established in 2000, and has since developed into a widely-acclaimed course with national and international standing. The courses are offered at three levels - a professional certificate, graduate certificate and full professional master.

Sustainability Management Program
Sustainability is about the aspiration for a just society that coexists in harmony with the natural resources on which it relies now and in the future. This simple notion is turning into a powerful driver for change in business, government and indeed the community at large. In practice sustainable development is achieved by finding policies, products and services that strike a better balance between economic prosperity, social advancement and environmental protection.
The courses will provide you with the concepts and tools to manage organisational change for sustainable development and deliver Triple Bottom Line performance. The program equips students with the in-depth understanding of the sustainable development challenges, as these manifest themselves at local, national and global scales. The course is about building skills to develop and implement practical solutions for business and other organisations to become more sustainable in particular through eco-efficiency, innovation, transparency, accountability and corporate citizenship.
The sustainability program will be offered at two levels - graduate diploma and professional masters. The master course provides an opportunity to specialise in business administration, environmental health management, sustainable technology or sustainable communities.

Higher Degrees by Research (HDR)
The Centre involves HDR students in its research projects. Current PhD topics in the centre are for instance applicability of Cleaner Production in aluminium industry, applicability of benchmarking to drive Cleaner Production in small business, and integration of Life Cycle Assessment in strategic business management. Applications for PhD studies are received on an ongoing basis and should be directed to Dr Ben Mullins (b.mullins@curtin.edu.au).
UNDERGRADUATE COURSES
The centre teaches sustainability units for several of the undergraduate programs at Curtin University of Technology, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Biology and the Faculty of Engineering.
Sustainable Production and Consumption
This elective unit is primarily aimed at students in environmental undergraduate degrees, and aims to provide students with a broad introduction to the challenges posed by sustainable development and the practical steps businesses and other organisations can take. The unit is available as a stand alone lectures series or in combination with tutorials and project work on review of sustainability efforts of an industry sector of choice.

The redesign of the engineering programs offered through Curtin University of Technology has created an Engineering Sustainable Development unit as a common shared unit for all engineering graduates (in chemical, civil and construction, mechanical, electric and electronic and computing). The unit provides for an exploration of the role of engineering to develop and implement effective solutions for the sustainable development challenges faced by industrialised societies.
